Platt Tech’s Care Closet
As the cold weather and holidays approach, I wanted to remind you that Platt Tech has a Care Closet (yes, an actual closet) that offers basic hygiene essentials for any student in need. The concept is if students know they have access to items they need, they can focus and perform better in class. The Care Closet offers deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, socks, gloves, hats, and much more.
How can a student access the Care Closet?
If you know of any student who could use assistance like this, please let me know, and I can assemble a bag for them. Or students can come see me and take what they need. If a student does not want to have any interaction with me, I also keep items stored on the back of my classroom door C205 (across from the upstairs boy’s bathroom) for easy grab-and-go access.
How can I help the Care Closet?
Since this is funded entirely through generous donations from Staff and our Platt Community, donations are appreciated. Right now, we have a good stock of many items, but I suspect we will need more women’s and men’s deodorant soon. We go through many chapsticks too. Also keep the Care Closet in mind if you receive gift sets over the holiday season that you won’t be able to use. Lastly and most importantly, please share this information with your students so that we may reach all students in the building. This is a financially difficult season for many of our Platt Tech families, but we have the ability to ease the hardship.
So far this year, the Care Closet has provided 109 items to students. Special thanks to all the Platt Tech Staff who continue to keep the Care Closet running. Our students are lucky to have you care the way you do.
