Parent Faculty Organization

Platt Tech’s Parent Faculty Organization (PFO) supports all aspects of the educational program by engaging parents in the life of our school. Parents, guardians, friends and faculty are invited and encouraged to attend.

PFO meetings provide an opportunity to meet other parents and school administrators and are a great way to keep involved in your student’s education. All meetings and presentations take place in the library/media center (unless otherwise noted) and are in collaboration with the Platt Tech Family Engagement Team. All Executive Board meetings are held 30 minutes prior to the general PFO meeting and all parents and guardians are welcome to attend.

The primary agenda for meetings delivers education and information critical for parents of teenagers. These have been developed through interest surveys, which identify issues of concern. Each meeting begins at 6PM. and not to exceed one hour.

The dates for the PFO meetings are September 20, November 8, January 10, March 14 and May 9.

How the PFO helps the school

Event/Activity Planning
Several school-wide events are collaborative efforts with PFO support.

Fundraising
We plan school fundraisers that generate funds to support student activities.

Recognition/Award programs
Senior Awards program, Faculty Merit Awards and Student of the Month

Projects
PFO has been instrumental in creating and maintaining Platt’s television studio, fitness center and outdoor classroom.

Curricular Enhancement
PFO sponsors mini-grants for teachers and students that foster high student achievement, intensified teacher/student interaction and home-school communication. Typically, these are awarded in amounts under $300 and are used to subsidize class field trips, guest speakers and creative lessons not normally funded through Platt Tech's instructional budget.

Volunteerism
Parents/teachers serve as volunteers during and after school hours as chaperones, event staff, library aides and participants in activities.

Family Engagement Initiative
This year Platt Tech is fortunate to be part of a family engagement initiative, which will establish a school-based resource center promoting connections between school and home. Look for more news soon.
